How do I use Imitrex?

Take medication with food. If your symptoms do not improve, do not take this medicine, talk to your doctor first. If your symptoms only partially improved, or if your headache returns, you may need a second dose after two hours after the first or at the direction of a physician.
Do not take more than 200 milligrams per 24-hour period. This medicine may also be used as a backup for Imitrex (Sumatriptan) injection. If your headache returns or your symptoms only partially improved after injection of Generic Imitrex, you may need to Imitrex tablet adopted in the mouth, 2 hours after injection.
Do not take more than 200 mg of the drug in the mouth, or divide by a maximum of 3 doses (2 mouth and 1 injection), during the 24-hour period. If you have never taken this medication, and you have risk factors for heart problems, then you may have to check on the drug side effects. Your doctor may ask you to take the first dose in the hospital. Tell your doctor if your condition is not improving or deteriorating.

What is the dosage in the treatment?

Your dosage is based on health status and response to therapy.

What is the effect of the use of Imitrex?

Do not start, stop or change the dosage of a medicine cannot, only after consultation with the doctor. Do not take this medication if you are taking MAO inhibitors (e.g., furazolidone, isocarboxazid, procarbazine, selegiline, tranylcypromine, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine) or have used MAO inhibitors the last 2 weeks, this can lead to very serious interactions.

In addition, the report on the use of drugs which might increase the risk of side effects with Generic Imitrex when you use: drugs such as isoniazid (INH), phenothiazines (e.g., thioridazine), theophylline, or tricyclic antidepressants (e.g. amitriptyline) and others. Ask your doctor for more information.

What precautions should be observed?

This drug is not recommended for use during pregnancy, and may be taken only if it is really necessary. Imitrex gets into breast milk and may have undesirable consequences for infants. Consult your doctor before, to start breastfeeding. Tell your doctor if you have an allergic reaction.
Your doctor should know about your health problems, to provide health care, especially if you have problems such as heart disease (e.g., chest pain, heart attack), decreased blood flow to the brain (e.g., stroke, transient ischemic attacks).
Some types of headaches (hemiplegic or basilar migraine), diseases of the circulatory system (e.g., ischemic bowel disease), uncontrolled high blood pressure (hypertension), diseases of the liver. Before using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, especially: certain blood circulation disorders (e.g., Raynaud's disease), seizures, the following risk factors for cardiovascular disease: high cholesterol, obesity, smoking, and if you're a woman after menopause, men over 40, diabetes, family history of heart disease, high blood pressure (controlled). If you have a great risk of heart disease, your doctor may check your heart before you prescribe Generic Imitrex.
This medicine may make you dizzy or drowsy; take care participate in events that require attention, such as driving or work with mechanisms. The risk of cardiovascular disease, liver disease, and high blood pressure, occurs with age. With regard to older people, they are more sensitive to side effects from this drug, it is not recommended for them.

What side effects from this medication?

This drug sometimes causes a very serious condition called serotonin syndrome. The combination of such funds to such medications as "triptans", used to treat migraines, headaches (e.g., sumatriptan, zolmitriptan), including some antidepressants, SSRIs (e.g. paroxetine, citalopram, fluoxetine) and NSRIs (for example, Duloxetine, venlafaxine ), or certain drugs to treat obesity (sibutramine) may cause the serotonin syndrome.
Inform the doctor if you are taking any of the above-mentioned drugs. Serotonin syndrome may be more likely when you start or increase the dose of any of these drugs. Ask for immediate medical attention if you develop some of the following symptoms: hallucinations, unusual nervousness, severe dizziness, high fever, nausea, diarrhea, twitchy muscles, loss of coordination, fast heartbeat. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor.

Where should I keep my medicine?

Keep out of the reach of children.

Store at room temperature between 2 and 30 degrees C (36 and 86 degrees F). Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.
